Mobile IV therapy in Florida: what you should know

Short answer

In Florida, IV therapy requires an order from a licensed prescriber and must be administered by appropriately licensed nursing staff. Speedy administers IVs only when a patient’s doctor has ordered them for that specific patient; we do not prescribe IVs or offer walk-in IV menus.

Why an order matters

IV fluids and additives are medications, and Florida nursing regulations treat IV administration as a task that requires both a valid prescriber order and a nurse with appropriate training and licensure to carry it out. This is a patient-safety requirement, not paperwork for its own sake, since fluids, electrolytes, vitamins, and other additives all carry real risks if used incorrectly, dosed wrong, or given to the wrong patient.

An individualized order also means a licensed provider has reviewed your health history and determined that IV therapy is appropriate for you specifically, rather than assuming a general formula is safe for everyone who walks in the door. This matters because factors like kidney function, heart conditions, and existing medications can change whether a given fluid or additive is safe, which is exactly the kind of judgment a prescriber is trained to make.

How it works with Speedy, step by step

Your doctor’s practice sends us a written order describing the specific IV therapy they want administered to you, including the solution and any additives. We confirm the order is complete, coordinate pickup of the prescribed IV solution from the ordering practice or pharmacy, travel to your location, verify your identity and the order against the product before starting, and monitor you throughout the infusion.

What we do not do

Speedy does not write IV orders, choose IV formulas on request, or promote IV therapy as a general wellness product. If you are interested in IV therapy for any reason, that conversation needs to start with a licensed prescriber who can evaluate your history and decide whether it is appropriate, rather than with us as the administering technician.

We also do not keep a standing stock of IV solutions to choose from, since every bag we administer is tied to a specific order for a specific patient and is sourced accordingly.

Be cautious with IV menus

Some mobile IV businesses advertise a menu of "wellness" IVs without first requiring an individualized order from a prescriber who actually knows your health history. Before booking with any provider, ask directly who ordered the therapy and who will be administering it; a legitimate IV should be tied to a real order written for you specifically, not simply a menu choice you select online.

South Florida service area

When a licensed prescriber has ordered IV therapy for a patient in Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm Beach county, we can administer it in the patient’s home or office within our regular service hours. See our mobile IV administration service page for more on how the order-and-administration process is structured and what information we need from the ordering practice before scheduling. We also travel for larger practice contracts elsewhere in Florida when coordinated in advance.

When to call your doctor

If you think IV fluids might help a condition you have, or if you have questions about an IV your doctor already ordered, that conversation belongs with your prescriber rather than with the technician performing the administration. Reach out to them about dosing, additives, or how you are feeling during or after an infusion, since those are clinical decisions outside the scope of what we are authorized to handle.
